Yasmin Dawood receives Legal Excellence Award

Yasmin Dawood, an associate professor of law and political science, has been recognized by the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto (SABA) with the Legal Excellence Award.

The honour recognizes SABA members who have achieved excellence in their areas of practice or made an exceptional contribution to the profession.

Dawood is the Canada Research Chair in Democracy, Constitutionalism, and Electoral Law and an internationally recognized scholar known for her interdisciplinary scholarship on voting rights, political equality, and the electoral process. As one of Canada's foremost experts on election law, she has been influential in conceptualizing and addressing systemic challenges that undermine electoral fairness and democratic governance.

One of the Faculty of Law’s most acclaimed teachers, Dawood was the most recent recipient of the Mewett Award for Teaching Excellence, awarded by the Class of 2020.

“On behalf of the Faculty of Law, I congratulate Professor Dawood on her Legal Excellence Award from SABA Toronto," said Jutta Brunnée, dean of the Faculty of Law. “In addition to her commitment to ground-breaking research, teaching and curriculum development, Professor Dawood is actively engaged in our community and mentorship of our students. I am delighted that SABA has chosen to recognize her with this prestigious award.”
